About

Our Vision & Objective

Todd and I started Southwind Ranch in January 2021 because of our passion for horses and what it means to our family. But our vision was to go beyond breeding horses. It was to grow life, enjoy nature, family and friends.

We believe life is not about the belongings we acquire, but the journey we take together and how it transforms us!

As breeders, our objective is the pursue of quality and to participate in the thrilling Reining Industry.

Our Brand

Our Brand has its origins back in the 60’s in Brazil. It has been created by Abdelkarin Janene (Abdo), Carolina's grandfather. It has been in use for three generations of our family.

The triangle shape symbolizes the “A” and “J” from Abdo’s name and became an iconic brand for Nelore cattle in Brazil, and later Quarter Horses through his son Anizio Janene. Todd and I decided to adopt the brand as a continuation of their work and in their honor.

Our Name

Our Ranch's name also carries similar roots... besides being an avid cattle breeder, Abdo was known as a talented story teller. Friends would surround him during cattle shows and auctions to listen to his stories.

One of these stories (a legend) has inspired Todd and I on the name for our ranch. The story was about the creation of the horse. Abdo used to tell us that a long time ago, the south wind blew the desert sands into the shape of a magnificent creature. This new creature was gifted with the sight of an eagle, the speed of the panther, the courage of the lion, the elegance of the gazelle, and the canine's loyalty and love for its owner. People started calling this new creature “horse”.
